No. All I have to do is boot up ubuntu 12.04 and log in. It doesn't
(always?) happen right away though, it usually starts after I've used my
media keys to reduce/increase volume (that might just be a coincidence
though). Logging out and back in doesn't seem to help although it does
stop for as long as I'm at the login screen (I assume gnome-settings-
daemon stops when you logout).

Also, the problem appears to stop after a while: gnome-settings-daemon
calms down and the num lock toggling stops.
