I installed the LSB package and used alien to make the debs, which I then installed. The problem was that all my viewer programs complained about ghostscript not being correctly installed. When I tried to start it from the shell, it suggested kindly that I installed gs-esp. Also, I could not run any package manager without it pretty much forcing me to install gs-esp to fix broken packages, as it did not recognise the new ones as satisfying the dependencies. So overall, I'm afraid I still have not managed to find out if the bug still exists in the new versions. Sorry!
