This has been an ongoing problem, so I find out where the changes are for the version I am about to upgrade to and then, after doing the upgrade, but before you reboot, make the needed changes while your keyboard is still working. Then when you reboot, it will continue to work and you don't have to go hunting for a wired keyboard.
