Hi Ahmed,

Thanks for reporting this bug.  As you mention, this is a very common
bug that many, many people run into (see bug #3731, which is the master
bug report for this issue.)

One of the fixes we're working on is basically what you've described - a
GUI xorg configuration tool.  This will be available from the System
menu, and will also pop up post-install if the installer produced an
invalid xorg.conf.  You can see a preview of this latter functionality
here:  http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/BulletProofX/.

If you'd be interested in helping in testing this new functionality, it
would be valuable.  You would need to install Gutsy and then install the
displayconfig-gtk package.  Any problems you find (or ideas for
improvement) can then be reported to the displayconfig-gtk package in
launchpad.
