Hello Christopher I solved the problem by taking a driver from another acer device (found the solution by googling on the mic problem) Currently I will not upgrade my acer one to another Ubuntu version as I don't like the user interface and how it sometimes hangs. Additionally I have mighty problems with ubuntu > 10.04 on my dell 1520 (hangs after the upgrade) and I am now testing the Linux Mint 12 release. Up to now I like the Mint more than ubuntu (11.XX and higher) and my dell does not hang ... sorry for my negative reaction
Philip Van Cleven PS I adviced people to install ubuntu but after 10.10 I actually told them to hold the upgrades and wait till I find a more easy UI and mint is definitely a good candidate.
