I tried booting per instructions in the kernel debug (removing quiet
splash vt.handoff=7 options and setting gfxpayload=ext).

Well a whole lot of stuff whizzed by before my machine hung.  Last meaningful 
thing I saw was something like "running init.d scripts top to bottom" then a 
ton of entries that meant nothing to me.  Last thing printed on the screen of 
my frozen computer started with this:
[14.968080] [<c|565fdf>]? .... 

So I don't know if this is useful. It is meaningless to me.  If there is
some way to capture all the junk sent to my screen so I can sent it to
you,  please send instructions.
