This has been opened for *four* years in Mozilla which is ridiculous. I only discovered this problem a year ago and inquired about it and they were very flippant about the whole thing. I was told "this is how Unix works." This is a usability bug. There has been a fix for it the entire time which is to change a one-line setting.
