I have this exact same problem. I can copy small files but anything of significance even a few jpgs causes this. I cannot even unmount the drive and most of the files that make it on there are corrupted. My thumb drives used to work no problem, not sure when that changed but this functionality is now broken. I am dual booting into windows just to write to my thumb drive :(
