Andrew:

you picked the wrong controller to confirm this bug - this is the same 
with my ICH5 when i grep for the IDE controller id (in 2.6.20-15 
ata_piix is claiming the IDE controller, but in 2.6.20-16 piix is doing);

you have to look for the line in "lspci -nn" output with the string 
"SATA controller"
with the id statet there, it would be interesting to see your 
modules.pcimap differences both kernels.

if with 2.6.20-16, the id gets claimed by BOTH sata_piix and piix, the 
situation is as described in this bug.
if not, it would confirm that your ICH6 controller is not affected.
