This one is all related to the high contrast themes which reside in the gnome-themes-standard package - and might be fixed there, or we might think about doing a new ambiance-high contrast or reverse theme. I will raise that at the Ubuntu Developer Summit for 12.10 and see if there are any takers to do that work.
I do know about the general problem, and we are raising that in the right places.
