"chmod u+s /sbin/mkhomedir_helper" does not solve the problem for me...
I still get the black screen when I login to Precise and the home directory is missing. The same "pam_mkhomedir.so" line in /etc/pam.d/common-session on a Lucid machine works without any problem.
