All right, I've just finished testing this out for about 2 hours. It
seems that it makes no difference on temperature when Unity is disabled
or not. I guess the issue is related to Compiz?

After running just a web browser (Epiphany) and IRC client (xchat)
without Unity enabled, my temperatures have gone very high:

$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:        +85.0°C  (crit = +120.0°C)
temp2:        +85.0°C  (crit = +120.0°C)

nouveau-pci-0100
Adapter: PCI adapter
temp1:        +88.0°C  (high = +100.0°C, crit = +110.0°C)

I'm not doing anything intensive at all- just reading a few Wikipedia
articles. Even letting the laptop just idle will result in the same
behaviour. Stays acceptable if I just use Shell or Fallback with no
effects. The heat problem also happens with Unity 2d (bit odd).
