Open shell and become root.
Type
#echo N> /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll
This should drastically reduce the system load and put your system back to
normal.
Note that this will only be sustained till system reboot. After reboot the
value will revert back to poll=Y
For a sustained effect:
#echo "options drm_kms_helper poll=N">/etc/modprobe.d/local.conf

Subject: [Bug 887793] Re: Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU

Geting this on a 2011 Dell Lattitude, Ubuntu 11.10, always and only when the
power cord has been unplugged and then plugged back in again.
Once it's started happening, I can turn the kworkers on by plugging the cord
in, and turn the big off by unplugging the cord. I've tried with several
recent kernels including the realtime ones, and the same behaviour results.

uname -a
Linux charles-nst 3.0.12-rt30 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Wed Dec 14 09:57:01 GMT 2011

Title:
Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I've this issue since the latest Ubuntu 11.10 version, all updates
applied till today, and it's still there. Ubuntu 11.04 did not have
  this issue.

If I run top there is a Kworker constantly taking much CPU, I don't
know how to research where this comes from.
