Works all right for me on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with the very same scanner. I
have used the latest firmware from Agfa. Maybe that would sort the
problem?

As far as I'm concerned, I'd say the bug should be closed.

@Alexander Schilling: you get this message because there is a manual
configuration step to be done in the config files (in
/etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf ) where you need to specify which "firmware"
you are using. Firmware, here, is a binary file that you have to get
from the Windows drivers. if you're using windows XP, it's in
Windows\system32\snape20.bin . If you don't have windows installed, you
can run the driver installer using Wine and get the file from your local
.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/snape20.bin directory...
