I have this problem too. I´m using an Athlon 64 3000+ with an ATI Radeon 9200, with ATI open source driver, and every time I try to start Ubuntu, the black screen appears. To resolve this, I need to boot in Recovery Mode, and reconfigure the xorg.conf. But, everytime time I do this Ubuntu starts ok. I close Ubuntu and shutdown the computer, but after this the black screen appears and the hard disk stops work. This happens in a computer in my work.
At home I have an Athlon 1000 with an Nvidia GeForce 2 MX and there boot's fine. Maybe this issue is related with the ATI and Radeon open source drivers. I hadn't tried to install a proprietary driver from ATI. -- Black screen after "start or install ubuntu" on dapper ReleaseCandidate https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47006 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
