Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16-generic

During the latest security upgrade in Feisty, the upgrade of the package
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16-generic failed during its
configuration phase:

I've narrowed the segfault down to the postinst script which calls:
depmod -a -q -F /boot/System.map-2.6.20-16-generic 2.6.20-16-generic

And, indeed, running that command in the terminal causes depmod to
segfault. Just running "depmod -a" works fine though.

The result of this upgrade failure is that the system won't start the
next reboot since the kernel won't boot. Grub was already updated and
the only way to boot is to hit ESC after the bios and select the older
kernel.
