I had the same problem on my HP Pavilion zv6000 I dont know if it was after upgrading my kernel or after trying to get the ati-driver work, but my touchpad scroll-area doesnt work anymore this is the way I fixed it: In my /etc/X11/ directory was no xorg.conf file only a copy of it: xorg.conf.original-0 so I renamed it into xorg.conf, restarted the x-server and it worked
