I have also experienced this problem. I have a Gateway MX7118, AMD64 Mobile Athlon and using Kubuntu 7.04 installed from CD. My CPU freq. was reported OK until yesterday, when I did a system upgrade. I did the same as the others, removed "powersaved" and reinstalled "powernowd", and now it works again.
