I followed Xerxes' instructions and am able to launch. I also found that I was unable to log into the minecraft.net servers in the launcher screen. This appeared after the patch. My solution was to create a symbolic link /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libsoftokn3.so pointing to file usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/nns/libsoftokn3.so
