This seems very similar to my experience with feisty. I had been using
feisty since the middle of January and I think the problem started
around kernel version 2.6.20-9.

I have not seen the problem after switching back to edgy. I am currently
using Fedora 7 test 4, and  I don't get any random oopses or crashes
here either. So I don't think it is a hardware problem.
