The current Ubuntu documentation/help page includes a disclaimer about the staleness of this package, so anyone looking there for help will be directed to install the latest from http://www.tug.org/texlive/
The documentation page at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LaTeX says: Note: As of October 2011 the texlive package that ships with Ubuntu (TeX Live 2009) is lagging more than two years behind the current TeX Live release (TeX Live 2011).
