I went back to test if this happens on Precise or a fully-updated Oneiric. As a first step I tried to reproduce on a vanilla Oneiric install with no updates.
I was unable to reproduce this, I tried with two screens, one at 1280x1024 and another at 1680x1050. None exhibited the problem. Thus I think it may have been caused by the screen I was using when I reported this. Strangely, that time I used the same external display to test a bunch of machines and none except the Dell V13s exhibited that problem. Still, as I'm now unable to reproduce on either Oneiric (without and with updates) or precise, on the same systems I reported last, and with two different screens, I'll set this as invalid.
