Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sun-java5-bin
Here is what I did:

Boot Feisty LiveCD
Connect to Wireless network
Open a terminal
sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list
uncomment the universe lines and also append " multiverse" to the ends
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-java5-jre
(Accept DLJ license)

The end of the output is:
=============
Setting up sun-java5-jre (1.5.0-11-1ubuntu2) ...

Setting up sun-java5-bin (1.5.0-11-1ubuntu2) ...
Error: could not find libjava.so
Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.
dpkg: error processing sun-java5-bin (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
=============

I do see that libjava.so is at
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.11/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so

but it's not being found.
I ran "sudo update-alternatives --config java"
=============
There are 2 alternatives which provide `java'.

  Selection    Alternative
-----------------------------------------------
          1    /usr/bin/gij-wrapper-4.1
*+        2    /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java
=============
and I kept the default (2).

** Affects: sun-java5 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
