okay, for me knetworkmanager (knw) runs out of the box, recognizes my network card (MacBook) and helps to get me online in both wireless and wired setups.
Yet is often just disappears from the system tray, or it does not come up at all. Like right now the icon is not in the tray. ps gives me: $ ps ax|grep knetw 15224 ?
