Public bug reported: In 7.04, the linmodem/winmodem drivers aren't particularly difficult to install (I imagine, since I never got that far), but all the information from www.linmodem.org and the gzip file that I needed to wget according to the help files are inaccessible without internet access. Clearly, if I need to install modem drivers, I don't have internet access, making it impossible to install. Although I could rig up some ways around it, like saving the appropriate files to a USB drive and then opening them while the liveCD is running, it seems excessively complicated.
I wasn't sure if this was appropriate for a bug report, but because it could create a serious problem for people who wipe their hard drives and install ubuntu without noticing the impossibility of installing the drivers without another source of internet access, it seemed like a Catch-22 that could be taken care of via a reevaluation of the files included within the package. Thanks, you're all doing wonderful work that's much appreciated! ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- winmodem drivers catch-22 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116961 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
