I discovered that stopping my autofs5 service seemed to resolve this
stalling, or at least one case where I was seeing it (Shutter not being
able to load). I have not really figured out why.

My autofs config is simple, mounts a few NFS shares when I am on my home
network, as well as a local drive when it is connected.

#auto.master
/shares /etc/auto.ianbmacdonald --timeout=120 --ghost

#auto.ianbmacdonald
media -fstype=nfs4,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,hard,intr,async
media.ianbmacdonald.com:/data
data -fstype=nfs4,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,hard,intr,async
maple.ianbmacdonald.com:/data
external -fstype=auto
UUID="be2779cd-9607-46b4-a64f-92ec5894ec1a"

Basically with autofs enabled, I don't see a complete list of folders in
the left pane on most "open" dialogues, there are delays refreshing my
evolution main screen, and shutter will not load (or takes minutes).
It seems to be the culprit, although I have not seen the symptoms where
desktop notifications get jammed up (as described above) in a very long
time (maybe because I usually stop the service).

I attached my xsession-errors from today (no autofs running); A few
interesting things in there, notably with evolution, but nothing that
seems related to this previous issue.
