Public bug reported: No sound at all after fresh install of Xubuntu 11.10 on MacPro 5.1 with Intel HDA sound card and Realtek ALC889A chipset. Google told me to modify /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add options snd-hda-intel model=mb31 to fix problems with the ALC889A but that didn't change a thing Modules are loaded and aplay -l lists all devices nicely **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC889A Analog [ALC889A Analog] Subdevices: 0/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC889A Digital [ALC889A Digital] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
But no sound at any plug. And no error message as far as I can see.
