I can confirm .... I have a Compaq Presario V3117LA Laptop, system freeze immediately burning at max speed (8x) in k3b, nautilus, gnome backer. At 6x system freeze just near the end of burning. At 4x finish with errors in the medium. At 2x all it's OK.
On freeze i can move the mouse with bad response but i can shutdown the system. In the middle time, dvd spin sometimes with anormal noise.
