I've fired up a 5G disk, 1G ram kvm instance running i386 precise, and
synced the kde mobile through testdrive-gtk and fired it up.  While it's
taking forever to get to any sort of desktop, the VM has not yet died.

I do notice that your disk configuration is a bit nonstandard - with a
145G /host, and / loop-mounted.  That shouldn't cause any trouble in
itself though (other than being low on disk space).
