Public bug reported: I have a Boxee Remote (wireless DLink keyboard) plugged into a machine running Xubuntu 11.10.
Every time I press a key on the remote, it will crash the X server even at the lightdm login screen. However, X doesn't crash if I run XBMC and am using the remote within that application. However, as soon as I exit XBMC fullscreen mode (even if it is running windowed) and press a button on the remote, I get this crash again. I believe this crash is related to this bug (at least the backtraces are very similar): https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/597895 $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 $ apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 Candidate: 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 Version table: *** 1:7.6+7ubuntu7.1 0 500 http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ oneiric-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ oneiric-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:7.6+7ubuntu7 0 500 http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/ubuntu/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages Backtrace: [ 788.548] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x26) [0x460566] [ 788.548] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x64b7a) [0x464b7a] [ 788.548] 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7feee0afb000+0x10060) [0x7feee0b0b060] [ 788.548] 3: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x1512fa) [0x5512fa] [ 788.548] 4: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x15d469) [0x55d469] [ 788.549] 5: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x15f1db) [0x55f1db] [ 788.549] 6: /usr/bin/X (mieqProcessInputEvents+0x189) [0x45b039] [ 788.549] 7: /usr/bin/X (ProcessInputEvents+0x9) [0x46daf9] [ 788.549] 8: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x2f903) [0x42f903] [ 788.549] 9: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x232fe) [0x4232fe] [ 788.549] 10: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xed) [0x7feedfa3730d] [ 788.550] 11: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x235ed) [0x4235ed] [ 788.550] Segmentation fault at address 0x20 [ 788.550] Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault).
