Public bug reported: I've tried to get my GTX 295 to work on multiple versions of Ubuntu, but this has failed. I know that the card itself works. I contacted NVidia and they said that it was most likely a kernel bug. I tried 12.04 off of a liveCD and that wasn't any different. I installed the proprietary drivers on a persistence file on the live USB, but that didn't work either -> That's the set-up that you have the information on.
The issue is that the kernel doesn't seem to detect both GPUs on the card properly. My lspci shows 2 GPUs, but it should show three (I currently have a GTX 460 SE and a GTX 295 in the machine, so there should be a GTX 460SE entry and two GTX 295 entries.) Most lspci methods didn't detect anything else at all, but when I used, 'lspci -A intel-conf2', I got, "00:08.0 Non-VGA unclassified device: Device aebc:75c5". Nothing shows up on that address when I use the other detection methods and I'm not the expert, but I'm guessing that the problem is somewhere in that area. So I suppose that the reason that I'm giving you all of this extra information is because I don't know what EXACTLY the problem is, but it seems that the kernel is unable to decide how to deal with this multi- GPU card.
