I can confirm that this annoying issue is still present in 11.10 and i.e. also affects Lenovo Edge 11 AMD. Since some time it got even worse. There are some indications that the issue is caused by some interferences with the WLAN Driver. There was a upstream bug report at https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8740 but this has been closed due to inactivity.
