This is needed pretty badly. It's already standard behavior on other desktops to automagically enable a tray icon indicating the current layout if multiple layouts are loaded (or at least provide the option to enable such an icon in the same dialog where the layouts are configured). As it is, having more than one layout listed in the Keyboard -> Layout section of the Settings Manager doesn't get you anything more than having just the first one.
I was setting up Xubuntu for a Spanish-speaking user who needs to switch between US English and Latin American layouts, and this was one of the few stumpers along the way. Working with two layouts in this manner doesn't appear to be unusual in bilingual communities---this user's computer had a US keyboard, as that's easiest to buy in the US, but the user also touch-types with the LatAm layout as that facilitates typing the various diacritical characters of Spanish. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879911 Title: Keyboard layout indicator is not installed by default in Xubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xubuntu-meta/+bug/879911/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
