Hope you had a Merry Christmas.
I have found where I went wrong. I had downloaded the film direct & tried to 
get Movie Player  to play it. You have to do it through iPlayer so that all the 
controls are loaded with it (parental. time limit, IP address).

My understanding is that the BBC encrypts their iplayer content. (I
don't know for sure as BBC blocks anyone that doesn't have a UK IP
address.) I suggest that you contact the BBC if you feel they should be
providing their content unencrypted for free.

I am closing this bug since this isn't a Ubuntu problem.
