Daniel, I don't know what are the changes between version vv9 and vv10 of compiz, but now things have improved considerably. Most notably, I can't tell the difference with or without Twinview. I tested also with several suspend/resume cycles and I saw no performance slowdowns.
Finally, also bug #888039 seems now fixed to me.
