Confirmed. I have the same problem. Config: Ubuntu 11.10 Session: Unity 2d Launcher: Cairo-Dock, Metacity compositing on Maximus: no_maximize true
Symptom: Panel, Cairo-Dock disappear but seem to be present (mouse clicks open applications/menues). Happens always after restoring maximized Thunderbird.
