I have the same two problems: F11-modify missing fonts and slow (slow on an AMD64 3500+; almost hanging on a 1.1Ghz, 240MB RAM P III laptop) character proporties window loading (and this also happens in the F11-modify window when you select the fonts tab).
I don't know the reason for any of the two bugs, but I have made some findings about the first bug: I have just discovered that the missing fonts problem only affects the "F11 - modify" window. The really weird thing about this bug is that if you try the "F11 - modify" thing on a particular style (say 'default' or 'body text', for instance) the folowing happens: the first time you modify it only a few fonts show up; the second time, all the fonts show up, the third only a few (like 1st time), fourth all, and so on... And last, the missing fonts happens to me both with an empty document and with an already edited document.
