Public bug reported:

I am on Oneiric/powerpc, and there seems to be an issue with installing
gnome-shell due to bad dependencies:

$ sudo aptitude install gnome-shell
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  gnome-shell{b}
0 packages upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 1,108 kB of archives. After unpacking 4,683 kB will be used.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  gnome-shell: Depends: gir1.2-coglpango-1.0 which is a virtual package.
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

     Keep the following packages at their current version:
1)     gnome-shell [Not Installed]

gir1.2-coglpango-1.0 seems to be available in Precise, but not Oneiric
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/precise/+package/gir1.2-coglpango-1.0).
Why is this dependency showing up on Oneiric?

** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
