Public bug reported: If I open up pavucontrol and click the 'Input Devices' tab, then plug in my Logitech Quickcam 3000, I see the microphone input bar bouncing around while I talk. It continues to bounce around for about 5 seconds --then it freezes wherever it was on the scale and I am unable to record audio from the webcam. (If I shout and max out the input, the bar will freeze near the right side of the screen, if I am quiet, it will freeze near the left side).
I can repeatedly unplug the webcam and then plug it back in and repeat the steps with the same results. It also happens if I kill the process '/usr/bin/pulseaudio --start --log-target=syslog'. If I am extremely quick during those five seconds, I can get cheese up and running and record about half a second of sound before it doesn't record any more. The video for the camera also flickers and the color is off--so I'm not entirely sure it's specifically a pulseaudio issue. The camera works fine under Windows, so I don't believe this is a hardware issue. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
