Public bug reported: I own a Mustek ScanMaster 3830 scanner. It worked fine, out-of-the-box, with both Dapper and Edgy. However, it stopped working in Feisty. It just returns following message:
scanimage: open of device sm3840:libusb:001:004 failed: Access to resource has been denied Further investigation revealed, that this family of scanners is not supported by the Sane project. Instead, someone reverse-engineered a backend and prepared a patch for sane-backends-1.0.15. This is the version found in Dapper and Edgy and it works great. However, Feisty uses sane-backends-1.0.18. The apropriate library file, /usr/lib/sane/libsane-sm3840.so.1-1.0.18 is present, but it fails to do its work. After some experimenting, I just downloaded the 1.0.15 version of sane-backends, applied apropriate patch and compiled it. Then I just copied libsane-sm3840.so.1-1.0.15 and changed the symbolic links in /usr/lib/sane to point to it. It worked like a charm and my scanner is functional again. My guess is that the library present in sane-backends-1.0.18 is either just a dummy placeholder, or contains a bug that prevents it from doing its job. ** Affects: sane-backends (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- lost support for sm3840 family scanners https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115898 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
