Is this really an important issue? All you have to do is run "compiz
--replace" every morning on your desktop, resize and move all your
windows back to where they were, and presto, you get a bunch of memory
back from the system. Except that over the weekend your whole desktop
can freeze or become otherwise unusable due to compiz's lust for memory,
in which case you just have to restart your computer without the option
to save anything you were working on. I vote to close this issue as WONT
FIX.
