Public bug reported:

These two log files recently grew to over 1 Gb each. I only noticed
when I booted up and X failed to start, giving a warming about not being
able to write to /tmp. I later discovered that this error was due to
lack of partition space and that /var/log had become bloated. I deleted
syslog.0 and kern.log.0 and all is well. This bug may be related to Bug
#71870.

My kernel is 2.6.20-15-generic
Version is Kubuntu 7.04
My hard drive is partitioned thus:

hda1 - WinXP (ntfs) - 10 Gb
hda5 - windows user files (ntfs) - 30 Gb
hda6 - / (ext3) - 7 Gb
hda7 - swap - 2 Gb
hda8 - user space (fat32) - 2 Gb
hda9 - /home (ext3) - 25 Gb

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
