First of all, when I installed ubuntu 11.10 I used amd64 distro (since
the installation instructions said that there is are no installation
differences between intel and amd) and the HW is intel. Should I keep
the amd64 vs i386 kernels? If not (if I should change from amd64 to
i386) how should I go about the migration that would include module
reconfiguration? On the second look, 32-bit version (i386) versus
64-bit (amd) should not matter...

The above said, I was not able to fully install i386 kernel modules, but
I succeeded installing amd64 kernel modules. kernel 3.2 cr4 did not fix
the problem.
