Public bug reported:

If you run mythtv-setup (as opposed to mythtv-setup.real) it assumes the
mythtv daemon is running, and tries to kill it. If it isn't running this
generates errors.

Even worse, it then silently starts the daemon again when exiting.

However, just because I have stopped editing the setup does not mean I
am ready to have the daemon start yet. e.g. I might be exiting the setup
because I am having problems scanning channels, and I want to try
testing the TV card from the command line. I can't do this with the
backend running trying to access the card.

Please don't restart the daemon unless it was already running before it
was killed. Maybe even ask first.

Also:

* Please don't bother asking if if the daemon should be killed if it
isn't even running.

* The mythtv-setup.real checks the daemon is running itself, why does
mythtv-setup need to duplicate this effort?
