3rd - "+ When you say you can not open or create any file for and from 
LibreOffice Calc, what specifically are you clicking?"
cliking on Icon to open calc or open any other LibreOffice app and clicking on 
FILE>NEW>Spreadsheet or right click on any *.xls/*.odt file it starts the 
openning/initialization of the LibreOffice but closes imediatly and never open 
the file.
By the other hand the files can be opened with M$Excel, GnuCalc, etc.

4th - "+ Can you open a Calc file from the Terminal via: localc FILE"
The final result is absolutely identical
