If you're using the NVIDIA proprietary driver then the primary monitor
(the one the launcher appears on) is chosen by the
"TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder" option in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which I think
you change by ticking the primary monitor box in the NVIDIA control
panel.

Using the NVIDIA proprietary driver, xrandr and the Gnome Displays
control panel are totally irrelevant. Thanks NVIDIA :P
