Removing the package would not have propagated to mirrors any more quickly than fixing the bug (which was by means of backing out the incorrect patch, and was virtually immediate once the relevant developer was awake). There's also nothing we can really do about how quickly mirrors choose to update; most of them pull from us rather than being pushed to from us. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but there isn't much we can do about this.
