Thanks for your help. I'm sorry for the delay in replying, I have been away. The issue occurred in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric (final release), I am unsure what the version number of Unity was as I have now removed it from my system. I now use Lubuntu 11.10 as I have a desktop computer. The Unity GUI appears to be designed for smartphones and notepads. PP
