At https://code.launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/ubuntu/precise/accountsservice /lang-fix/+merge/82505 I propose that the LANG environment variable is redefined in Ubuntu to represent the display language instead of regional formats. I mention this because if the proposal would be approved, it would affect the solution to the issue in this bug report.
