I used the NVIDIA proprietary driver before, but I like the open drivers as
the support for randr better.  I never needed 3d acceleration before
11.10.  Ubuntu 2d seems ok now and doesn't have any of the other issues.  I
think with nouveau 2d has few issues and randr works.
